Physics laboratory is adequately equipped to conduct U.G. practical. The experiments conducted at the UG level are (i) general practical (ii) Electronic experiments and (iii) Application oriented experiments. In general practical, experiments in electricity, magnetism, heat, light and sound are conducted. These experiments help students to understand the basic phenomenon in physics which are theoretically taught. Electronics experiments are conducted in order to study the characteristics of electronic components such as diode, transistor, field effect transistor, Uni-function transistor, silicon controlled rectifier and integrated in units. It helps the students to understand the basic functioning of the electronics science in gadgets like T.V., Mobile phone, Computers, power supply, inverter, etc. In the application oriented laboratory experiments on operation amplifiers and microprocessor are done. The students are taught to write programs to perform addition, subtraction and other mathematical computations. The laboratory is also equipped with a magnetic stirrer with hot plate for both students and staff to grow crystals in the laboratory for their research works.
The laboratory has all the equipment required for the undergraduate courses as prescribed in Madras University syllabus. Decimal Shimadzn Digital Electronic Balance INFRA In 200 BL cap: 200g, Reagent 0.1mg from Sigma Scientific Instrument are used instead of the two pen analytical balance. An RO plant, -Ion exchange demineraliser water plant, size Indic on CA 20/u is installed. All the necessary distilled water required for the analysis is being obtained from the plant. Computers with a laser printer, refrigerators for storing the chemicals, thermos stated hot air oven with controller, fan 18 X 18 X 18 Chamber and 'matai' Me-2230 1500 watts stainless steel from Central Scientific Company, electrical water bath with 12 holes from Sigma Scientific Instruments, hot plate 8” M/s top, a couple of sigma vacuum pump double stage size: 200 litre and 0.50 HP motor, and a clinical centrifuge SH covered 3500.5 speed are also available. The department of chemistry is well equipped with sophisticated tools like LCD Projector and OHP Projector. These tools are not only used by the staff members as teaching aids, but also by the students for presenting their project papers and seminars. Students are also well trained in the power point presentation.
The Laboratory inculcates and evinces great interest in students who wish to enter into the Medical field. It has both basic and advanced facilities
The college houses many computer labs. There are more than 180 computers only for the use of students.
It has a Computer laboratory in first floor of the Main building for the use of Undergraduate students. Beside Two Computer laboratories, one in the second floor of the Main building and other in the Ground floor of the M.B.A and M.C.A Block, cater to the modern needs of Post Graduate students. The Computer lab consists of advanced systems with new configuration and is up-to-date with new soft wares.
A Computer centre is also provided for the students. Internet network facility is available in the computer centre for the student references. It has 20 computers with an updated configuration.
