S.I.V.E.T. College embodies the vision of inclusive education and community development envisioned by the South Indian Vaniar Educational Trust, founded in 1960 by the distinguished Hon'ble Justice Thiru. S.A. Ayyasami Chettiar, M.A., B.L. With generous contributions from the Vaniar community and a 27.47-acre land grant from the Government of Tamil Nadu, the college was established in July 1966 at Gowrivakkam, Chennai.
From its modest inception, S.I.V.E.T. College has evolved into a dynamic centre for higher education, currently serving over 4,100 students across a wide range of academic disciplines. Affiliated with the University of Madras, the college began offering its first undergraduate programs in History and Mathematics in 1971, and has since expanded its curriculum to include Economics, Commerce, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Corporate Secretaryship, among others.
The introduction of the Self-Finance Shift II wing in 1992-93 marked a significant phase of growth. Today, the college offers:
8 Undergraduate and 2 Postgraduate programs under the Aided stream
12 Undergraduate and 2 Postgraduate programs under the Self-Finance stream
2 Part-Time and 2 Full-Time Ph.D. programmes
The institution's progress has been profoundly shaped by visionary leadership. Prof. Dr. S.V. Chittibabu, M.A., D.Litt., former Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj and Annamalai Universities, served as President of the Trust, guiding the college through critical phases of academic and infrastructural development. Under his leadership, and with NAAC accreditation (B++) and UGC recognition, the college continues to reach new milestones in educational excellence.
